The Humane AI research priority area at the University of Amsterdam is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Open AI research for social sciences and humanities. This two-year, fully funded position focuses on developing a critical understanding of open-source AI for the social sciences and humanities. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of AI engineering and academic inquiry, contributing to the creation of an open SSH AI Commons that enables researchers to use state-of-the-art Large Language Models with transparent, ethical, and reproducible infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include conducting independent research on AI methods for social sciences and humanities, developing open-source AI prototypes using Python and tools like HuggingFace, publishing and presenting at leading international venues, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and contributing to knowledge dissemination and project organization. The position is supervised by Professor Tobias Blanke, Professor of Humanities and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Amsterdam.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field such as computer science, artificial intelligence, social sciences, or humanities, and have experience with open-source AI tools.
