The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) is inviting applications for its Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2026, a prestigious on-campus research internship designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students from across India. This program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on research experience under the mentorship of NITR faculty, with exposure to advanced laboratory and research facilities.

Eligibility: The internship is open to students currently enrolled in B.Tech/B.E. (after at least 4th semester), B.Arch/Integrated M.Sc./Integrated M.Tech/Dual Degree (after at least 6th semester), or M.Sc/MA/MBA (after at least 2nd semester) programs at institutions in India other than NIT Rourkela. Applicants must have a strong academic record and be available for the full duration of the internship (May 18 to July 17, 2026). All grade sheets up to the previous semester must be available at the time of application. Late joining or early leaving is not permitted.

Research Areas: Internships are available in a wide range of disciplines, including Biotechnology & Life Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Planning & Architecture, Mining Engineering, and more. Interdisciplinary research opportunities are also available, allowing students to explore topics at the intersection of science and engineering.

Program Details: The internship typically lasts 8 weeks (May–July 2026) and is conducted on campus at NIT Rourkela, Odisha. Selected interns will work on real research projects, receive mentorship and academic guidance, and build a strong profile for future MS/PhD applications. A certificate is provided upon successful completion.

Funding & Facilities: No fellowship or financial assistance is provided. However, interns will have access to laboratory, library (without borrowing), internet, and medical consultation facilities. Food and accommodation are available at the NIT Rourkela Hostel at an approximate cost of Rs. 7500 per month, to be paid by the intern.
