VID Specialized University, one of Norway's largest private higher education institutions, invites applications for up to five fully funded Ph.D. Research Fellowships in Theology and Religion. The positions are offered by the Centre for the Study of World Christianity and Religion and are open for a period of three years. VID is committed to humanity both locally and globally, with a strong research profile in practice-relevant research, diversity, social inequality, and global Christianity. The university has campuses in Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Sandvika, and Tromsø, and offers a wide range of study programmes at all levels.

The Centre for the Study of World Christianity and Religion understands World Christianity as a multi-centred, plural, and global phenomenon, and encourages research that explores theology, religion, and their cultural and contextual expressions worldwide. The fellowships are open to applicants in various fields of Theology and Religious Studies, with priority given to projects related to Sámi or Kven traditions, constructive or practical theology, truth and reconciliation, colonialism, decolonisation, church history, mission and archival research, biblical studies (including indigenous, contextual, and postcolonial perspectives), and ecotheology.

Successful candidates will join active research groups, collaborate with other academic institutions, and contribute to high-quality research and publications. The Ph.D. programme prepares students for careers in research, teaching, and leadership roles within religious organisations, NGOs, and educational institutions. The place of employment can be Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, or Tromsø.

Applicants must hold a relevant Master's degree (120 ECTS) with a grade of B or higher, and demonstrate proficiency in English. Experience in research and effective collaboration are preferred. Diversity is valued, and applications from minority backgrounds are encouraged. Project descriptions must follow the prescribed template and be written in English or a Scandinavian language. Plans for research visits abroad during the fellowship are expected.

The fellowship offers a competitive salary of NOK 550,800 per year, with annual updates, and includes membership in the State Pension Plan, accident and group life insurance.
