Postdoctoral Research Associate in Root–Soil Interactions and Molecular Biology

The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Research Associate/Fellow position in the School of Biosciences, focusing on root–soil interactions and molecular biology as part of the UKRI-funded 'GROUNDBREAKING' project. This interdisciplinary research aims to uncover how plant roots sense and penetrate hard soils, identifying novel genes and regulatory pathways that enable roots to perceive and respond to challenging soil environments. The project builds on recent discoveries and integrates advanced techniques such as spatial gene regulation, single-cell transcriptomics, and confocal imaging to understand root biomechanics at the cellular level. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, plant biology, or a related discipline, with experience in root biology, cell or developmental biology, molecular biology approaches, hormone signalling pathways, and working with model plants like rice or Arabidopsis. A track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals is highly desirable. The position is fully funded for three years, with a competitive salary and opportunities for progression based on performance. The research group is based at the Sutton Bonington Campus, and the University of Nottingham offers a supportive and inclusive environment for researchers from around the world. Applicants are encouraged to review the job description and candidate guidance, and to apply online via the University of Nottingham job portal before the deadline on 6 March 2026. Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr Bipin Pandey. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated researchers interested in plant science, root–soil interactions, and sustainable agriculture to contribute to cutting-edge research with real-world impact.
