Postdoctoral Researcher in Semantic AI Navigation, Robotics, and Digital Twins at University of Dubai

The University of Dubai is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the SAIN-DT project, focusing on Semantic AI Navigation with Digital Twins and Hyper-Precision Localization for Smart Indoor Mobility. This three-year, full-time position is funded by the Dubai Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Program. The project aims to develop and validate an autonomous indoor drone navigation system for GPS-denied environments, integrating advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital twin technologies. The successful candidate will work on designing, integrating, and testing an autonomous indoor drone platform, developing and maintaining ROS/ROS2-based flight control and navigation software, and implementing indoor localization and sensor fusion using UWB, ultrasonic, IMU, and onboard sensors. The role also involves integrating a Jetson-based edge AI stack for real-time decision-making, utilizing digital twin-enabled simulation for mission rehearsal and validation, and conducting indoor experimental testing and evaluation. Additional responsibilities include documentation, publication, mentoring graduate research assistants, and collaborating with academic and industry partners. The project team includes Prof. Yassine Himeur (University of Dubai), Prof. Shadi Atalla (University of Dubai), Prof. Amjad Gawanmeh (University of Dubai), Dr. Hamzah A. (University of Dubai), Prof. Wathiq Mansoor (American University of Baghdad), and Prof. Amin Beheshti (Macquarie University, Australia). The research environment is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, offering opportunities to work with leading experts in robotics, AI, and smart mobility. Applicants must have a PhD in Robotics, AI, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in UAV/autonomous systems, ROS/ROS2, Linux, indoor localization, sensor fusion, and digital twins. Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, edge AI deployment, simulation environments, cyber-physical systems, and probabilistic estimation methods is desirable. To apply, candidates should message Prof. Yassine Himeur on LinkedIn with a short summary and CV, or apply via the University of Dubai Careers portal. This is an excellent opportunity for researchers passionate about robotics, AI, and smart indoor mobility to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in the field.
