Post-doctoral Assistant in Pathobiology, Pharmacology and Zoological Medicine (Wildlife Population Health)

Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a post-doctoral assistant position within the Department of Pathobiology, Pharmacology and Zoological Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The position is a temporary appointment for three years, with the possibility of renewal for up to three additional years based on performance. At least 70% of your assignment will be dedicated to academic research in wildlife population health. You will also participate in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, focusing on wildlife population health and necropsy of exotic companion animals. Additional responsibilities include counseling Master’s and doctoral students, and contributing to the scientific and clinical services of the department, particularly in wildlife population health and exotic pets. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Veterinary Sciences, with the requirement fulfilled by the start date. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should have prior research experience in pathology related to wildlife or exotic companion animals and have demonstrated promise as researchers during their doctorate. Interest in student coaching and relevant scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals are desirable. Membership in a relevant specialization (EBVS, such as ECZM or ECVP) is recommended. The appointment will begin no earlier than June 1, 2026.
