PhD Scholarship: Generative AI and Teachers’ Curriculum Work in Australian Schools

This fully funded PhD scholarship at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) offers an exciting opportunity to investigate the use of generative AI and commercial curriculum platforms by teachers in Australian schools. The project will explore how these technologies support everyday curriculum work, including lesson planning, differentiation, assessment design, and resource selection. A key focus will be on how such tools influence teachers’ professional judgement, autonomy, and workload, with particular attention to whether they save time or introduce new forms of labour. The successful candidate will join the ARC Discovery Project on commercial curriculum resources and teachers’ work, collaborating with leading researchers in the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice. This research will contribute to scholarship on the future of curriculum, teacher professionalism, and educational technology, with opportunities for interdisciplinary engagement across education, technology, and social sciences. The scholarship provides a generous stipend of $37,010 per annum (tax exempt, indexed annually) for up to 3.5 years, with a possible 6-month extension. Tuition fees are fully covered for up to 4 years of full-time doctoral study. Applicants must meet QUT’s entry requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy or professional doctorate, including English language proficiency, and enroll as full-time, internal students unless otherwise approved. The successful candidate must commence their degree before 30 June 2026. To apply, email Associate Professor Anna Hogan with your academic and research background, motivation for research in this field, interest in the scholarship, and your CV. If supported, you will submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a QUT PhD, nominating Anna Hogan as your principal supervisor and including the scholarship link in the financial details section. Applications close on 28 February 2026. This position is ideal for candidates passionate about the intersection of education and technology, and eager to contribute to research on the evolving role of AI in schools.
