PhD in Organic Synthesis and Supramolecular Chemistry (Boron-Assembled Molecules)

The Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes (ENSCR) and the Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes (ISCR) at the University of Rennes are offering a fully funded PhD position in organic synthesis and supramolecular chemistry, focusing on the synthesis and properties of new molecular assemblies with boron. The research will involve the development of boron-assembled molecules such as rotaxanes and catenanes, with a particular emphasis on supramolecular chemistry, macrocycles, and the optical and dynamic properties of these compounds. The project leverages recent advances in the use of tetravalent boron to build threaded species and rotaxanes, with new assemblies incorporating BODIPY stoppers that exhibit exceptional fluorescence properties. The successful candidate will be responsible for synthesizing boron compounds and exploring their supramolecular behavior, aiming to create new molecular architectures beyond simple rotaxanes and to study their dynamic and optical characteristics. The ideal applicant should have a strong background in organic synthesis and an interest in supramolecular chemistry. The position is open to candidates with a Master's degree, and applicants are required to submit a CV, a motivation letter (in French or English), and the marks or ranking of their Master's degree. The PhD will start in October 2026 and is funded for 36 months by the University of Rennes. The application deadline is 9 March 2026. For more information or to apply, candidates should contact Yann Trolez at [email protected]. Keywords: organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, boron, rotaxane, catenane, macrocycle, fluorescence, BODIPY, dynamic properties, optical properties.
