Researcher in Mathematics Learning, Teaching, and Anxiety

The Learning Brain Lab and Itec (Imec) at KU Leuven, located in Kortrijk, Belgium, invite applications for a researcher position focused on mathematics learning, teaching, and anxiety. This interdisciplinary opportunity bridges two leading research groups: the Learning Brain Lab, which investigates how children and adults acquire new knowledge and cognitive skills, and Itec, which specializes in the design and evaluation of personalized and adaptive digital learning solutions. The successful candidate will join a project at the intersection of personalized learning environments and mathematics anxiety, targeting both teachers and students. Responsibilities include supporting ongoing research on personalized learning systems, contributing to data collection and analysis, and designing activities such as informational videos and workshops to raise awareness about mathematics anxiety among educators. The role emphasizes both technical and non-technical communication, requiring the researcher to effectively disseminate findings to diverse audiences through workshops and knowledge clips, and to assess the impact of these initiatives. Applicants should hold a Master's degree in Psychology or Educational Sciences and possess experience in one or more phases of the research cycle. Strong communication skills and a creative approach to sharing research with non-scientific audiences are essential. The position requires Dutch language proficiency and fluency in English, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international team. The appointment is full-time for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. There are also potential pathways toward a doctoral position over time. KU Leuven offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including hospitalization insurance, eco-vouchers, reimbursement of commuting expenses by public transport, affordable meals, and access to a KU Leuven bicycle. The university fosters an inclusive, respectful, and diverse environment, welcoming candidates from all backgrounds. The position provides flexibility, professional development opportunities, and the chance to collaborate with leading researchers nationally and internationally. Applications must be submitted via the KU Leuven online application tool. Interviews are expected to take place in the week of January 26-30, with a preferred start date in early March (negotiable). For further information, candidates may contact Prof. dr. Bert Reynvoet or Prof. dr. Fien Depaepe. KU Leuven is committed to equal opportunity and does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
