Post-doc in Techno-Economic System Modelling of Energy Communities
This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology offers an exciting opportunity to advance the integration of energy communities and virtual energy sharing in Sweden. The role is embedded within two national research projects focused on developing robust and economically viable solutions for large-scale energy community deployment under evolving regulatory and grid conditions. The successful candidate will lead activities in time-resolved energy systems modelling, optimisation, and digital twin development for pilot sites. Key responsibilities include scenario-based evaluation of virtual sharing configurations, assessment of metering and system integration requirements, and quantitative analysis of economic, regulatory, and grid impacts.
The position involves developing and implementing advanced numerical models, calibrating them with real measurement data, conducting sensitivity and scalability analyses, and comparing energy community investments with conventional grid reinforcement strategies. Collaboration is central, with opportunities to work alongside housing associations, distribution system operators, electricity suppliers, and academic partners. The postdoc will contribute to policy-relevant recommendations and scientific publications, supporting Sweden’s transition towards sustainable energy systems.
Applicants must have a strong background in energy systems modelling, optimisation, and quantitative techno-economic analysis, demonstrated through doctoral research, scientific publications, or industry reports. Preferred qualifications include recent doctoral completion (within three years), experience with energy communities, virtual sharing models, grid impact analysis, business models, regulatory frameworks, metering infrastructure, data management, system integration, and proficiency in Python or similar tools. Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, especially gender equality, is valued. Strong personal skills, research expertise, teaching abilities, collaborative and project management abilities, and independence are emphasized.
