PhD Opportunity in Mechanical/Production/Manufacturing Engineering – Functionally Graded Dissimilar Steel Weld Joints at IIT Roorkee

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is inviting applications for a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) position under the BRNS, DAE sponsored project focused on the development of functionally graded dissimilar steel weld joints using the activated flux GTAW process. This project offers a unique opportunity for candidates interested in advanced welding, materials science, and mechanical engineering to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of functionally graded materials and steel joints. The initial appointment is for 3 months on a contractual basis with a monthly salary of 42,000 INR. Upon successful performance and following institutional procedures, the position may be regularized as an SRF, with the possibility of annual extensions for up to 3 years, depending on performance. Importantly, candidates selected for the regular SRF position will have the opportunity to be admitted to the PhD program at IIT Roorkee, subject to the institute's rules and regulations. Eligibility criteria include a first-class master’s degree in mechanical, production, manufacturing, or an allied branch of engineering. Doctoral candidates are discouraged from applying. The selection process involves an online interaction with shortlisted candidates. Interested applicants should submit their applications, updated CV, and relevant documents by email to Professor Dheerendra Dwivedi at [email protected] by January 10, 2026. This opportunity is ideal for candidates passionate about mechanical engineering, production engineering, manufacturing engineering, welding, and materials science. The project is well-funded and provides a pathway to a PhD at one of India's premier technical institutions.
