Aston University is offering a fully funded PhD position in Battery-Less Ultra-Low-Power Secure TinyML Visual Perception, located in Birmingham, UK, within the School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies. The project is aligned with the £12M EPSRC Edge AI Hub, a national flagship initiative. The research focuses on designing ultra-low-power IoT devices capable of running TinyML AI models for visual perception, with applications in security, safety, and surveillance. The technology aims to enable video-based AI deployment without batteries, impacting areas such as healthcare security, food security, vehicular security, and supply chain security. Supervisors for this project are Dr Emeka Abakasanga and Prof. Jose M. Alcaraz Calero. Applicants must hold at least a 2.1 Honours degree or a Master's in a relevant science or engineering discipline, with strong skills in machine learning, programming (Python, C/C++), mathematics, and probabilistic modelling. Preferred skills include computer vision, image processing, IoT/embedded systems, analytical abilities, and communication skills.
