Universitätsklinikum Münster - UKM

PhD Student in Neuro-Immunology

The University Hospital of Münster (UKM) is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join the Department of Neurology in the research group of Prof. Gerd Meyer zu Hörste. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in human neuro-immunology, focusing on the mechanisms of brain border immunology, including the analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and meningeal leukocytes. The group combines basic experimental models with patient-derived specimens and utilizes advanced technologies such as multi-dimensional flow cytometry and single-cell/single-nucleus transcriptomics. The successful candidate will be involved in projects applying multi-dimensional flow cytometry, animal models, and single-cell or single-nucleus transcriptomics, with integration into the Biology in Context Core Unit. The research aims to advance the understanding of immune mechanisms at the brain's borders, contributing to the broader field of neuro-immunology. Relevant publications from the group include PubMed IDs 38750052 and 33382973. This is a fixed-term, part-time (65%) position for three years, with salary according to TV-L, salary group 13, including extra annual payment and a company pension plan (VBL). Additional benefits include 30 days of vacation per year, two extra days off on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, a wide range of training and professional development opportunities, and support for work-life balance. The UKM is committed to equal opportunities and supports the compatibility of work and family life. Applicants should have a strong background in cellular immunology, with hands-on experience in multi-dimensional flow cytometry and/or cell sorting. Experience with single cell or spatial transcriptomics is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate motivation, willingness to learn, team spirit, organizational skills, reliability, flexibility, and excellent communication skills in English. German language skills are not required. Please note that this is a wet-lab position; applicants with a purely (bio)informatics background will not be considered. Complete vaccination against measles is mandatory due to legal requirements. To apply, submit your application via the UKM career portal by 01 April 2026. For further information, contact Prof. Gerd Meyer zu Hörste at [email protected]. The University Hospital of Münster is one of Germany's leading hospitals, offering a respectful and appreciative work environment within a diverse team. Applications from women and handicapped candidates are especially encouraged.
