PhD in Marketing at University of Texas at San Antonio (Fall 2026)

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Carlos Alvarez College of Business, is inviting applications for its PhD in Marketing program starting Fall 2026. This program is designed for students interested in advanced research in marketing, with a focus on experimental and secondary data research methods to address real-world marketing challenges. Students will collaborate closely with experienced faculty on research projects in consumer behavior and strategy, gaining valuable insights and expertise in the field. The Department of Marketing at UTSA features 10 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 6 PhD students, and is recognized for its research contributions, routinely ranking in the top 50 of the UT Dallas North American Rankings of Business Schools. Faculty and students regularly publish in top marketing journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, and Marketing Science. The program offers small class sizes, fostering frequent interaction with faculty and comprehensive preparation for academic careers, including teaching, research, and service. UTSA is a Carnegie R1 University and a Hispanic Serving Institution, with the Carlos Alvarez College of Business accredited by AACSB. The program is full-time, typically completed in four to five years. Applicants must have either 66 semester credit hours with a related master's degree or 75 credit hours without a master's or with a master's in a different field. Additional coursework may be required for those without the appropriate background. Application materials include official transcripts, GMAT or GRE scores (within five years), three recommendation letters, a personal statement, resume, and proof of English proficiency for international students. The application fee is $50 for domestic and $90 for international applicants. The financial package is highly competitive, valued at over $190,000 for four years. Assistantships pay $27,500 per year for half-time service (19 hours/week), provide in-state tuition classification, and include a $2,500 annual research fund. Additional fellowships up to $5,000 may be available, and the college supports academic travel and research. The department may offer further scholarships to top students on a competitive basis. Graduates of the program have secured positions at leading universities such as Baylor, Michigan State, Ohio University, University of Alabama, and others. Alumni hold tenured or tenure-track positions at institutions including Brigham Young University, Florida International University, Texas A&M, and more.
