School Funded PhD Scholarship in Civil Engineering at University College Dublin

The UCD School of Civil Engineering is offering a prestigious School Funded PhD Scholarship for 2026, aimed at supporting current students and recent graduates of the School in pursuing full-time PhD studies. This opportunity is open to those in the final stages of Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering with Architecture ME, BE in Civil Engineering, Water, Waste and Environmental Engineering, and research masters students scheduled to submit their thesis by May 2026. Recent graduates from 2022 to 2025 from all taught programmes delivered by the School are also eligible. The scholarship provides full tuition coverage and a generous stipend of €25,000 per annum for four years, with additional funding available for research commencement and conference attendance. Successful candidates will be expected to register on the UCD Structured PhD program and must achieve a 1H1 in either their UCD BE, ME, or MEngSc programme. The selection process evaluates academic excellence, motivation to pursue PhD study, and the quality of the research proposal. Proposals developed with early career or recent faculty in the School are particularly encouraged. Applicants must submit a completed application form, including personal information, educational background, employment record (if applicable), proposed supervisor and research topic, a personal statement, and a short description of the proposed research. The deadline for applications is Friday, 6th February 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview. For further information or queries, contact Associate Professor John O'Sullivan ([email protected]) or Ms Roisin O'Loughlin ([email protected]). For more details, visit the UCD Civil Engineering LinkedIn page or the School's website. This is an excellent opportunity for those passionate about advancing research in civil, structural, and environmental engineering at one of Ireland's leading institutions.
