PhD Scholarships in Transportation Infrastructures (Geotechnics, Materials, Construction, Intelligent Transport) at University of Nottingham Ningbo China and Shandong University

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) Graduate School, in partnership with Shandong University (SDU), is offering Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) PhD Scholarships focused on Transportation Infrastructures. This unique programme provides a structured doctoral training pathway, combining robust theoretical foundations, advanced research skills, and international collaboration between the UK and China. The DTP covers research areas such as transportation infrastructure systems, geotechnical engineering, building materials, smart construction, and intelligent transportation technologies. The programme is cohort-based, offering enhanced academic and professional development opportunities. PhD supervision is jointly provided by academics from UNNC and SDU, with students required to spend at least 50% of their time (minimum 18 months) at UNNC. Upon successful completion, graduates receive a PhD degree from the University of Nottingham, accredited by both the Chinese Ministry of Education and the UK Quality Assurance Agency. The scholarship includes full tuition coverage and a monthly stipend of RMB 4,500 for up to 36 months, with opportunities for teaching or research assistant duties after the first year. Applicants must hold a master's degree with a minimum average score of 65% and Merit or above from a British university or equivalent, and a bachelor's degree at upper second class or above. English language proficiency (IELTS 6.5, minimum 6.0 in all elements or equivalent) is required. Candidates should seek consent from potential supervisors before applying and must meet all entry requirements for the PhD programme. Applications are open until 30 April 2026. Interested candidates should apply for the PhD programme at UNNC, selecting the correct scholarship reference number, and review the required documents on the application page. This opportunity is ideal for MSc graduates and early-career researchers seeking internationally competitive PhD training in transportation and civil engineering.
