Postdoctoral Researcher in Microbial Single-Cell Omics and Infection at Umeå University
Umeå University in Sweden is offering a two-year postdoctoral researcher position in the Department of Molecular Biology, focusing on single-cell transcriptomics of microorganisms. The project aims to develop and apply advanced single-cell omics technologies to investigate the biological mechanisms underlying infection, pathogenesis, and antibiotic resistance in microbial populations. The research will utilize cutting-edge tools such as semi-permeable capsules, molecular barcoding, sequencing, and high-dimensional data analytics to dissect the heterogeneity of microorganisms at the single-cell level.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, working closely with other research groups within the department. The project is led by Kemal Avican (Group Leader) and Linas Mazutis (Guest Professor), both based at Umeå University. The research group provides state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure and access to the latest technologies in single-cell analysis. The position offers an excellent opportunity to expand professional networks and acquire new skills in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, and bioinformatics.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biophysics, or a related field, completed within the last three years (exceptions apply for special circumstances). Candidates must have strong methodological training in molecular biology or biochemistry, and excellent communication skills in English. Experience with molecular cloning, nucleic acid analysis, DNA processing enzymes, and scRNA-Seq protocols is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be proactive, cooperative, and able to work independently as well as in a team, contributing to an inclusive and positive work environment.
The position is fully funded for two years with a competitive salary. The application must be submitted in English (preferably) or Swedish via the Umeå University electronic recruitment system. Required documents include a cover letter, CV with publication list, verified copy of the doctoral degree certificate or documentation of expected completion, and contact information for two references. The deadline for applications is February 2, 2026. For more information, visit the department website or contact the supervisors directly.
