Doctoral Fellow in Electromechanical, Systems and Metal Engineering – Electrical Machines Modelling for Sustainability

Ghent University is offering a full-time doctoral fellowship in the Department of Electromechanical, Systems and Metal Engineering, located at the Electrical Energy Laboratory in the Tech Lane Ghent Science Park, Zwijnaarde. The position focuses on the development of smart, parameterized multiphysics models for electrical machines, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and recycling. The research involves creating high-fidelity models to simulate electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical properties of electric machines, and includes both experimental work and simulation software. Prototypes will be developed and tested as part of the project, and the successful candidate will be expected to publish in journals and present at conferences. The ideal applicant will have a Master of Science in electromechanical or electrical engineering, strong technical expertise in electric machines and multiphysics simulations, and a passion for academic research. Good English communication skills and an affinity for both experimental and simulation-based research are required. The fellowship is initially for 12 months, extendable up to 48 months upon positive evaluation, and offers a net salary equivalent to an AAP member, with the exact amount determined by family status and seniority. The grant is tax-free and includes comprehensive staff benefits such as training opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers. Applications should be submitted by sending a CV and motivation letter to [email protected] before November 30, 2025, with 'FWOStudents' in the subject line. Selected candidates will be invited for further selection steps, including a possible interview via Teams.
