Assistant Professor in Technical Communication (Tenure Track, Remote, PhD Required) – Communication, AI, and Technology

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide Campus, College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Humanities and Communication, is seeking applications for a fully remote, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Technical Communication. This position is focused on curricular development and teaching in technical communication, with a strong emphasis on technical writing (ENGL 221), which is a high-enrollment course in the general education curriculum. The successful candidate will support degree programs across the College of Aviation and the College of Arts & Sciences, including B.S. in Engineering, Aviation Maintenance, Data Science, and Software Engineering. The role also contributes to the department's growing specialization in critical artificial intelligence studies and the development of interdisciplinary minors and certificates such as Artificial Intelligence, Ethics, and Creativity; Aviation, Technology, and Society; and Science Literacy. There is also support for the B.S. in Communication, particularly the Aviation, Science, and Technology track. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Technical Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, English, Communication Studies, Professional and Technical Communication, Writing Studies, or a related discipline. The position favors candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence in technical, scientific, or professional writing, and those with experience or interest in aviation, engineering, or aerospace communication. A research agenda aligned with the department's strengths in communication, writing, and emerging technologies is encouraged, along with the ability to help integrate critical artificial intelligence literacies into pedagogy. The teaching modalities are asynchronous and synchronous online, with limited face-to-face offerings possible based on location. Service responsibilities include participation on departmental, college, and/or university committees. This is a fully remote online position within the United States, with no relocation required. Faculty are expected to travel at least once per year to attend mandatory college meetings and events. Standard faculty salary and benefits apply. Interested candidates should apply via the provided job link and prepare application materials that demonstrate teaching excellence and research alignment with the department's focus areas. The position is ideal for those interested in technical communication, AI, and technology in professional environments.
