Postdoctoral Position in Environmental Fate Modelling at Wageningen University & Research

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is seeking a postdoctoral Environmental Fate Modeller to join their Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) team. This position is ideal for candidates passionate about modelling the behaviour of chemicals in soil and water to support sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. The successful applicant will contribute to risk assessment projects, developing and applying advanced models for soil, surface water, and groundwater systems, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on exposure and ecotoxicology projects. The ERA team at WUR is a leading group in pesticide risk assessment and modelling, working closely with government, NGOs, and industry. The team develops science-based tools and methodologies for environmental risk assessment, aiming to inform policy and safeguard ecosystems. The role involves model development, programming (primarily in Python), simulation analysis, and scientific publication. Applicants should have a Master’s or PhD in environmental sciences, hydrology, or a related field, with at least 3 years of experience in environmental modelling, strong programming skills, and a solid understanding of mathematical and numerical modelling concepts. Excellent English communication skills (C1 level) are required, and knowledge of Dutch or willingness to learn is expected. WUR offers a competitive salary (€3,399–€5,478/month), a year-end bonus, excellent pension scheme, flexible and hybrid work options, and professional development opportunities. International candidates are welcome, with support for visa procedures and integration. The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance. The application deadline is 12 January 2026, and applications must be submitted via the WUR website. For more information, contact Sara Ahrari ([email protected]).
