Research Fellow (PhD Candidate) in Finance at Technische Universität München (TUM)
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is inviting applications for a Research Fellow (PhD Candidate) in Finance at the Center for Digital Transformation, TUM Campus Heilbronn, within the TUM School of Management. This full-time position (TV-L E13, 100%) offers a fixed term of three years, with the possibility of extension, and provides the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sebastian Müller.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team that publishes in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. The Center for Digital Transformation is a vibrant hub connecting leading scholars in marketing, finance, and operations, with over 20 doctoral researchers and five professors. TUM School of Management is renowned for its excellence in Economics and for bridging Management and Technology in an international academic environment.
Research areas for this position include Asset Pricing, Asset Management, Behavioral Finance, Digital Finance, and Sustainable Finance. In addition to research, the fellow will contribute to teaching activities and participate actively in the Doctoral Program of the TUM School of Management. Collaboration on third-party funded research projects is also expected.
Applicants should have completed or be close to completing a Master’s degree or equivalent in Management/Business, Economics, Business Mathematics, or Information Systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong enthusiasm for high-quality, innovative empirical research in Finance, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to pursue an academic career. Strong statistical training and quantitative research methods are required, and experience with programming languages such as R, Python, Stata, or Matlab is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively, possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a superior academic track record, and excellent English language skills (written and spoken).
