Postdoctoral Researcher in Network Neuroscience of Language at Radboud University (Neuroimaging, Language, Brain Networks)
The Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition, and Behaviour at Radboud University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Network Neuroscience of Language. This position is part of the ERC project EMERGENCE, which investigates how language emerges from large-scale brain networks by integrating white-matter connectivity, functional neuroimaging, and individual variability. The research group, led by Professor Stephanie Forkel, focuses on understanding the neurobiological principles shaping human language through advanced neuroimaging, computational modelling, and clinical neuroscience.
The successful candidate will work at the intersection of structural and functional connectivity, language processing, and advanced neuroimaging methods. The role involves leading advanced preprocessing and modelling pipelines, including tractography, connectome construction, neurotransmitter-weighted network modelling, and embedding approaches such as low-dimensional morphospace analyses and UMAP. Responsibilities include designing and implementing reproducible analysis workflows, contributing to hypothesis development, supervising junior team members, and coordinating data integration across large-scale datasets like the Human Connectome Project (HCP).
Applicants should have a PhD in neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, biomedical engineering, or a related field, with strong experience in neuroimaging (diffusion MRI and/or fMRI), quantitative data analysis, and programming (Python, MATLAB, R). Excellent English communication skills and a strong publication record are required. Desirable qualifications include experience with white-matter tractography, network-level analyses, multivariate or dimensionality-reduction techniques, and collaborative interdisciplinary projects.
The position offers a 1-year contract with a gross monthly salary between €4,728 and €6,433, plus an 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, and generous annual leave. The Donders Institute provides state-of-the-art imaging facilities, high-performance computing infrastructure, and a vibrant international research community. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, spanning cognitive neuroscience, clinical neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and behavioural science, with a strong commitment to open science, mentorship, and scientific impact.
