Fully Funded PhD in Multimodal & Multilingual Language Models at University of Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg is offering a fully funded PhD position in Multimodal & Multilingual Language Models within the TruX Research Group, led by Prof. Dr. Tegawendé F. Bissyandé. The position is based at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) on the Kirchberg Campus. Supported by Google.org, this research opportunity focuses on advancing multimodal and multilingual artificial intelligence, with a special emphasis on low-resource languages such as Luxembourgish. As a doctoral researcher, you will engage in cutting-edge research in multilingual and multimodal natural language processing (NLP), develop resources for low-resource languages, and leverage images and speech to improve cross-lingual transfer. The role includes designing and evaluating multimodal methods, publishing in top international conferences and journals, collaborating with global research partners, mentoring MSc and BSc students, and participating in workshops, demos, and shared tasks. Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, or a related field, with a strong background in machine learning and NLP. Experience or interest in multilingual and multimodal models, proficiency in Python, familiarity with deep learning frameworks, motivation to publish high-quality research, and strong teamwork and communication skills are required. The University of Luxembourg is a highly international and multilingual institution, with staff from over 90 countries and strong links to industry and European institutions. The position offers a salary of €41,976 gross per year for 36 months (full-time, fixed-term), with excellent academic–industry collaboration and modern campus infrastructure.
