Fully Funded PhD Positions in Precision Agriculture, Ag Robotics, and Weed Science at Virginia Tech
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is offering two fully funded PhD Graduate Research Assistantships in the fields of Precision Agriculture, Agricultural Robotics, and Weed Science. These positions are ideal for candidates with a strong background in weed science, weed management, and herbicide application, and who are interested in collaborative, multidisciplinary research. The research will be conducted at both the Virginia Tech Blacksburg Campus and the Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center (ESAREC) in Painter, Virginia.
Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend of $35,000, full tuition coverage (approximately $15,000), fully covered health insurance, and free university student housing with all utilities included (internet, water, and electricity). The positions are available for Summer or Fall 2026, with application screening beginning January 25, 2026. The application deadline is open until filled.
Applicants must have an MS degree in Weed Science or a related field, experience or training in weed management, and a preference is given to those with hands-on herbicide application experience. International applicants may need to provide TOEFL and GRE scores if required. The positions are supervised by Dr. Vijay Singh, Associate Professor and Extension Weed Specialist at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Virginia Tech.
