PhD Position in Synthetic Biology and Metabolic Engineering at Jiangnan University

Jiangnan University, located in Wuxi, China, is offering fully funded PhD positions in Synthetic Biology within the School of Biotechnology. The research group, led by Prof. Wei Luo, focuses on metabolic engineering and enzyme engineering, aiming to design and construct microbial cell factories for the sustainable production of high-value chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and active ingredients. Key research techniques include CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing, pathway design and optimization, AI-assisted enzyme design, systems biology analysis, and fermentation process development. Applicants should have or expect to obtain an MSc in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field. Essential qualifications include hands-on experience in metabolic engineering, proficiency with gene editing tools (such as CRISPR), expertise in enzyme/protein engineering, and practical knowledge of model microbes like Escherichia coli, Corynebacterium glutamicum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pichia pastoris, or Yarrowia lipolytica. Experience in molecular cloning, genetic manipulation, and physiological characterization is required. Good English proficiency and a strong publication record are advantageous. The CSC High-level Postgraduate Program scholarship covers full tuition, free on-campus accommodation or an off-campus allowance, a monthly living stipend (CNY 3500 for PhD students), and comprehensive medical insurance. The program is open to international students under 40 years old who are not citizens of China and do not hold other Chinese Government Scholarships.
