Post-doctoral Assistant in Experimental Psychology (Cognitive Neuroscience)

Ghent University invites applications for a Post-doctoral Assistant position in Experimental Psychology, with a focus on cognitive neuroscience. The position is based in the Department of Experimental Psychology within the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences. Ghent University is a leading institution in Belgium, renowned for its research and educational excellence across a wide range of academic fields. The successful candidate will dedicate at least 70% of their appointment to academic research in cognitive (neuro)science, utilizing neuroscientific methods such as non-invasive brain stimulation techniques (TMS and tES). While expertise in brain stimulation is preferred, candidates with strong experience in other scientific methods (e.g., EEG, fMRI, modelling) are also encouraged to apply. The role includes contributing to teaching activities at the Master’s level and supervising Master’s students in their coursework, internships, and theses. Additional responsibilities involve departmental service and administrative duties. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field, with all degree requirements completed by the start of the appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should have extensive experience with brain stimulation methods or other relevant neuroscientific techniques, solid knowledge of statistical methods used in experimental psychology, and programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Python). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, proficiency in English, and a record of relevant scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals are essential. The appointment is temporary for 1.5 years and cannot be renewed. Remuneration is determined according to salary scale AAP5, and staff members enjoy a range of benefits including training opportunities, 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques. The earliest possible start date is 1 April 2026. Applications must be submitted online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of 10 March 2026. Required documents include a CV (with publication list), cover letter, diploma transcript, and certificate of equivalence (if applicable), all in PDF format. Ghent University encourages applications from all qualified candidates as part of its equal opportunities and diversity policy.
