PhD Position in Horticultural Entomology, Chemical Ecology, and IPM at University of Florida

A PhD position is available in Dr. Xavier Martini’s Laboratory of Horticultural Entomology at the University of Florida, North Florida Research and Education Center (NFREC) in Quincy, FL, starting Spring 2026. The research focuses on chemical ecology and integrated pest management (IPM), specifically developing organic management strategies for whiteflies and their associated viruses in cucurbits using nano clay and essential oils. The project aims to disrupt whitefly behavior at multiple sensory levels, including contact, odor, visual cues, and gustation, with research activities such as behavioral tests, GC-MS analyses, and field trial assays. The position is USDA-OREI-funded, providing financial support for research and stipend. Applicants should have an MS degree in entomology or a closely related field, with preferred experience in IPM, insect behavior, chemical ecology, communication skills, collaboration, and outreach.
