A fully funded PhD studentship is available at Swansea University in Sport and Exercise Science, focusing on skill acquisition, performance science, biomechanics, and technology. The project aims to develop immersive simulations to support performance in competitive sporting environments, leveraging the new Simulation and Immersive Learning Centre (SUSIM) at Swansea. This interdisciplinary research will explore the application of immersive wall technology for skill acquisition, training, and testing in sports, evaluating the validity and fidelity of these simulations to provide evidence for their implementation in high-performance sport.

The PhD is a collaboration between Swansea University and the University of Canberra, with a supervisory team including Prof. Neil Bezodis, Prof. Laura Mason (Swansea), Prof. Ben Rattray, Dr. Michael Maloney (Canberra), Prof. Joanne Davies (Swansea), and Dr. Oliver Runswick (King's College London). The successful candidate will initially enroll at Swansea University, with the possibility to transfer to a joint PhD program once formal agreements are finalized. The studentship is hosted at Swansea, with optional time at Canberra if beneficial for the project, though no extra travel funding is provided.

Eligibility requires a 2.1 undergraduate degree or non-UK equivalent and English proficiency (IELTS 6.5 overall, no component below 6.5). The scholarship is open to UK fee-rate applicants only. The funding covers full tuition fees, an annual stipend of £20,780 (2025/26), and up to £1,000 per year for research expenses.
