About this position
The University of Cambridge is offering a fully funded EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) MRes + PhD program in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment (FIBE3 CDT), focusing on achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This innovative 4-year program (1 year MRes followed by 3 years PhD) is designed for students passionate about transforming infrastructure through civil engineering, sustainable design, digital technologies, and systems thinking. The program is based in the Department of Engineering and aims to create resilient, circular infrastructure that meets climate goals and addresses evolving societal needs.
Key research focus areas include existing and disruptive technologies for net zero, radical circularity and whole life approaches, AI-driven digitalization and data analytics, and risk-based systems thinking and connectivity. Students will benefit from a multidisciplinary environment, access to world-class facilities, and the opportunity to contribute to one of the most pressing global challenges: sustainable infrastructure for a net zero future.
Applicants should have a strong academic background in engineering or related fields, and must submit a research proposal aligned with net zero infrastructure themes. Other requirements include academic transcripts, a personal statement, and 2-3 academic references. English language proficiency is required for non-native speakers. The program is fully funded for eligible applicants, covering tuition and providing a stipend for living expenses.
The application window opens on September 3, 2025, and the deadline is April 15, 2026. Interested candidates should review the program details and research themes on the official website, prepare their application documents, and submit their application through the University of Cambridge Postgraduate Admissions portal.
