About this position

Fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions are available in the research group of Assistant Professor Siddhartha Patra at CQuERE, TCG CREST (Deemed to be University), Kolkata, India. The group focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of foundational theory and translational, application-driven science in quantum simulation, quantum algorithms, and artificial intelligence.

Research areas include tensor networks, quantum circuit simulation, quantum circuit compilation, quantum error correction, noise modelling, error mitigation, hybrid quantum–HPC algorithms, neural quantum states, quantum chemistry, quantum materials, large-scale quantum many-body simulation, lattice gauge theory, and QPU co-design. The group is particularly interested in candidates with strong backgrounds in quantum mechanics, linear algebra, computational physics, computer science, applied mathematics, and related fields. Proficiency in Python programming and numerical methods is essential, and applicants should be comfortable using modern AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) to enhance research productivity.

PhD candidates will develop novel algorithms and numerical tools across the research themes, with potential for industry collaboration. The postdoctoral position is aimed at researchers with a PhD in physics, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, or related disciplines, who have demonstrated research output in relevant areas and strong programming and HPC experience. The postdoc role offers the opportunity to lead projects and help shape the group’s research direction.

Short-term, self-funded project opportunities (6 months–1 year) are also available for ongoing master’s students in physics, computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, chemistry, or related fields. These projects focus on noise modelling, error mitigation, hybrid quantum–HPC algorithms, and tensor networks, with the outcome being a well-defined deliverable such as code and a report.

All PhD and postdoc positions are fully funded, though specific stipend amounts and tuition coverage details are not provided. The application deadline for the PhD programme is 15th April 2026. Interested candidates should apply via the official PhD programme page for doctoral positions, or email Siddhartha Patra with the required documents for postdoc and master's project opportunities. For more information, visit the group’s academic and social media pages or contact Siddhartha Patra directly.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
