About this position

The Mountain Ice & Water Lab at the University of Lethbridge, Canada, is recruiting a fully funded PhD student for Fall 2026 to study glacier melt–groundwater interactions in alpine environments. This research opportunity focuses on understanding how meltwater from glaciers feeds subsurface storage and mountain streamflow, particularly under the impacts of climate change. The project will involve extensive fieldwork at Peyto Glacier, advanced hydrological and groundwater modelling, and aims to contribute to the knowledge of cryosphere–groundwater connectivity and water resource management in mountain regions.

Ideal candidates will have interests and experience in mountain field hydrology, hydrological or groundwater modelling, and climate change impacts on water resources. The position offers full funding for four years, including opportunities for publications, field leadership, and international collaborations. The research group is led by Caroline Aubry-Wake, and applicants are encouraged to reach out for enquiries before mid-April 2026. The formal application deadline is May 15, 2026.

This opportunity is suitable for students passionate about environmental science, earth science, and hydrology, and who are eager to engage in field-based research and modelling in the context of climate change. For more information or to apply, contact [email protected] and visit the University of Lethbridge website for application details.
