Funding
Both UCL-RES and UCL-ROS scholarships offer full tuition fees (Home/Overseas for UCL-RES, UK/Home for UCL-ROS), a maintenance stipend (2025/26 rate: £22,780, 2026/27 rate to be confirmed), and additional research costs up to £1,200 per year. UCL-ROS also provides a professional development package and a conference allowance. Funding covers the standard research duration (normally 3 years full-time, 5 years part-time), but not CRS/writing up years.
How to apply
Submit a complete admission application and scholarship documents to the UCL department by the deadline. Prepare a strong research proposal and contact Mark Colley directly to discuss your interests. Ensure references are submitted by your referees to the department. Check department-specific deadlines and follow UCL scholarship application instructions.
Requirements
Applicants must submit a complete admission application to an eligible full- or part-time MPhil/PhD programme at UCL by the scholarship deadline. Candidates should hold or expect to achieve at least an upper second-class Honours UK undergraduate degree (2:1) or equivalent qualification. For the UCL-ROS, applicants must be UK-permanent residents from specific Black, Asian, and minority ethnic groups. A strong research proposal is required, and references must be provided, including one from the intended UCL supervisor. Previous research experience and commitment to research are expected.
