About this position

The Computer Vision for Smart Structure Lab (CVISS Lab) at the University of Waterloo, led by Dr. Chul Min Yeum, is seeking applications for graduate (MASc, Direct Ph.D., Ph.D.) and postdoctoral positions. The lab values candidates with experience or knowledge in deep learning, multi-view geometry, and AI-driven analysis of multimodal data such as images, video, depth maps, LiDAR, and point clouds.

Applicants should have a background in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields. Required skills include machine learning and deep learning (PyTorch or TensorFlow), computer vision fundamentals (multi-view geometry, 3D reconstruction, SLAM), and experience with 2D/3D object detection and segmentation. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with vision transformers, vision-language models, large-scale model optimization, AI deployment in real-world environments, and a publication record in computer vision, robotics, or structural health monitoring.
