Hearing Care for Children and Adults with Cochlear Implants KU Leuven in Belgium

The Experimental Otolaryngology research group at KU Leuven's Department of Neuroscience is offering a PhD position focused on optimizing hearing care for children and adults with cochlear implants and hearing aids. The group, comprising around 50 researchers from diverse disciplines, is based on the Gasthuisberg campus and collaborates closely with the Multidisciplinary Center for Speech Therapy and Audiology (MUCLA) at University Hospitals Leuven.

This clinically relevant project aims to implement and evaluate measurement methods in the clinic to better understand the capabilities and barriers faced by individuals with hearing loss. The research will also investigate the benefits of binaural auditory training. The successful candidate will participate in the development of technical setups and contribute to both fundamental and applied research in hearing rehabilitation.

Applicants should hold a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiological Sciences or an equivalent qualification (at least Distinction). Dutch language proficiency is required, as the role involves monitoring children and adults with cochlear implants at MUCLA/UZ Leuven. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in hearing guidance and scientific research, technical affinity, excellent collaboration and communication skills, eagerness to learn, and the ability to work independently.
