Paid Fellowship in Ethics of International Security for PhD Graduates in Hamburg Institute for Theology and Peace in Germany

The Institute for Theology and Peace (ithf) and the Center for Ethical Education in the Armed Forces (zebis) in Hamburg, Germany, announce the Pater Reinisch Fellowship, a paid six-month opportunity for early-career scholars in the field of ethics in international security. This interdisciplinary fellowship is designed for promising researchers who are completing or have recently completed a PhD in theology, philosophy, international law, or political science. Fellows will conduct independent research on the ethical challenges of modern military operations and warfare, contributing to the academic life of a new think tank at the intersection of peace ethics and international security.

The fellowship offers a monthly stipend of €2,400 (tax-free), plus up to €1,000 for round-trip travel to Hamburg. While health insurance and accommodation are not covered, the institute will assist fellows in finding suitable options. Fellows are expected to reside in Hamburg and will have office space at the institute. The program encourages research projects that address the ethical dimensions of military technologies, the changing character of war, and related topics in international security.

Applicants must hold or be near completion of a PhD in one of the eligible fields, demonstrate a strong record of independent research, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. German language proficiency is not required.
