The University of Calgary is offering fully funded PhD and MSc positions in the research areas of Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs) and Human-centered Software Engineering, starting in Fall 2026. The positions are supervised by Dr. Miti Mazmudar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Her research focuses on designing efficient privacy-enhancing technologies for modern distributed architectures and integrating them into software engineering lifecycles, with a strong emphasis on human-centered approaches.

The lab encourages interdisciplinary work combining privacy, security, and software development. Applicants should have a solid background in applied cryptography, computer networks, software engineering (including cloud computing), and human-computer interaction, demonstrated through academic performance, projects, or industry experience.

The group is not focused on machine learning or artificial intelligence, so candidates with interests solely in those areas are discouraged from applying.
