About this position

The STIL Lab at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) Montréal, part of the University of Quebec, is inviting applications for PhD and postdoctoral positions under the Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards (CIRTA) program. Led by Full Professor Ali Ouni, the lab focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI-driven software engineering, software engineering foundations for AI systems, and the application of agentic AI and large language models (LLMs) in software engineering. This opportunity is ideal for highly motivated international researchers interested in advancing the field of artificial intelligence and software engineering.

Successful PhD candidates will receive financial support of $40,000 per year for up to three years, while postdoctoral fellows will receive $70,000 per year for up to two years. The CIRTA program is a prestigious initiative funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), aiming to recruit top international research talent in priority areas such as advanced digital technologies, AI, and software engineering.

Applicants should have a strong academic background and research interests aligned with the lab's focus areas. PhD applicants must submit an academic CV (including publications), transcripts, and a one-page research motivation and readiness statement for ÉTS Montréal. Postdoctoral applicants are required to provide proof of PhD completion. All applications should be sent directly to Professor Ali Ouni at [email protected]. The internal deadline for applications is February 2, 2026. Due to the competitive nature of the selection process, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews and potential CIRTA nomination.

For more information about the program and application process, candidates are encouraged to review the official CIRTA program details and reach out to the lab or program contacts as needed. This is a unique opportunity to join a leading research group in Canada and contribute to innovative projects in AI and software engineering.
