About this position

The Intelligent Dexterity (InDex) Lab at Kennesaw State University is recruiting multiple PhD students and Graduate Research Assistants for Fall 2026. The lab specializes in cutting-edge research in robotics and artificial intelligence, including deep reinforcement learning, vision-language-action models, dexterous robotic manipulation, human-robot interaction, teleoperation, multi-modal perception, simulation-to-real transfer, and multi-robot coordination and planning. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NVIDIA, the lab offers access to advanced robotics platforms such as robotic arms, dexterous hands, quadrupeds, UAVs, and mobile robots, as well as high-performance AI training infrastructure with dedicated workstations and powerful GPUs for each PhD student.

Applicants should have a strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, or related fields. Essential skills include programming in Python and C++, experience with platforms like PyTorch, ROS, MuJoCo, and Isaac Sim, and knowledge in machine learning, robotics, computer vision, or control systems. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, curious, and able to work independently.

Accepted PhD students will receive full tuition remission and a stipend, along with mentorship and a collaborative research environment. The department offers a multidisciplinary approach to engineering education, preparing students for careers in robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing. The PhD program in Interdisciplinary Engineering provides opportunities for advanced research in intelligent robot systems, smart infrastructure, and biomedical engineering disciplines.

To apply, candidates should email their CV, transcripts, and a brief research statement to Dr. Lingfeng Tao at [email protected]. The application deadline for Fall 2026 is June 1, 2026, and review of applications will continue until positions are filled.
