PhD Stipend in Statistical and Causal Modelling of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) at Aalborg University Aalborg University in Denmark

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Aalborg University, Faculty of Engineering and Science, invites applications for a PhD stipend in statistics for medical research, with a start date of August 1, 2026 or soon thereafter. This three-year position focuses on statistical and causal modelling of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, utilizing data from health registries and biobanks. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with the Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA), part of the Faculty of Medicine at Aalborg University.

The successful candidate will engage in statistical and causal modelling of health outcomes, working with health registries and genetic information from biobanks. The role involves interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers from diverse backgrounds, contributing to methodological development in biostatistics, clinical AI, and bioinformatics. The Department of Mathematical Sciences is renowned for its research in both fundamental and applied statistics, including areas such as forensics, life sciences, topological data analysis, spatial statistics, and computational statistics.

Applicants must possess a Master's degree in mathematics or statistics, demonstrate knowledge of causal modelling, and have experience with genetic data and biobanks. Enrollment as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science is mandatory, in accordance with Danish Ministerial regulations. The PhD program requires completion of courses totaling 30 ECTS, participation in teaching or knowledge dissemination activities, and an external research stay of 3-6 months at a foreign institution.
