The ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig (Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) is expanding as part of Germany's national AI strategy, offering a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment at both the University of Leipzig and TUD Dresden University of Technology. This PhD student position is offered within the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) and ScaDS.AI Dresden, providing a structured graduate program focused on the fundamentals and applications of data science and artificial intelligence. Research topics span a broad spectrum, including AI theory, hardware, mathematical foundations, practical AI applications, and societal impacts of AI. The program is designed to enable completion of a doctoral thesis within three years, with the location (Dresden or Leipzig) determined by the assigned research topic.

Strong programming skills and expertise in AI/ML are essential, along with excellent English proficiency (CEFR level C1 or higher). Non-native speakers must provide recent proof of English language skills unless exempted by prior education in Germany.
The position is fully funded according to TV-L E13, with a minimum monthly gross salary of about 4,500 Euro (full time) for three years.
