About this position
The Automation and Control Institute (ACIN) at TU Wien, part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, is offering a postdoctoral position in Intelligent Process Control. ACIN is a leading research institute with over 50 researchers engaged in basic and applied research, industrial collaborations, and academic teaching in systems theory, automation, and control engineering. The position is based in the Complex Dynamical Systems Group, led by Professor Andreas Kugi, and involves close cooperation with an internationally active industrial research partner.
The research focus is on developing innovative methods for modeling, monitoring, control, and optimization of industrial production processes, with a particular emphasis on the steel industry. Key research topics include data-driven and physics-informed modeling, system identification, data-based estimation and soft-sensing of non-measurable system quantities, nonlinear and optimization-based control of complex dynamical processes, adaptive control methods combined with machine learning, and optimization-based design of production processes, plants, and experiments. The role also includes realization, validation, and testing of these methods on real production processes in the steel industry.
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field such as electrical engineering, and demonstrate experience in academic research and teaching. The position requires a willingness to supervise students, commitment to high performance, motivation to initiate research projects and acquire third-party funding, strong communication skills, team spirit, goal orientation, and a structured, responsible approach to work. Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential, and basic German skills are advantageous.
The postdoc position offers scientific freedom, opportunities for independent development, promotion of your scientific career, and collaboration within a motivated, interdisciplinary team. The contract is for 2 to 3 years (40 hours per week) with the possibility of extension. The gross annual salary is €70,200.20, and the institute provides secured funding, well-equipped infrastructure, and laboratories.
To apply, candidates should send their application and relevant documents by email to [email protected]. Further details about the position and application process can be found at the ACIN job portal. The application deadline is 31 May 2026.
This opportunity is ideal for researchers seeking to advance their career in intelligent process control, automation, and industrial optimization, and to contribute to cutting-edge research in collaboration with both academic and industrial partners at TU Wien.
