About this position

AstraZeneca is offering a fully funded Postdoctoral Fellow position focused on applying novel computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to multimodal digital pathology for the identification of high-risk Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients. The position is based in Cambridge, UK, within the Pathology department, and is supported by the Clinical Pharmacology & Safety Sciences (CPSS) group. The research aims to develop and apply computational pathology and AI tools for predicting and identifying CKD patients at high risk, leveraging extensive multimodal datasets from NURTuRE, the UK national Kidney biobank.

The successful candidate will collaborate with interdisciplinary scientists at AstraZeneca and receive academic mentorship from Professor Fabian Spill at the University of Birmingham. The project involves integrating digital pathology, whole slide multiplex immunofluorescence, spatial transcriptomics, and clinical data to uncover new patient stratification biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Key research areas include computer vision, machine learning, computational pathology, and biomarker discovery.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in computational biology, chemistry, cheminformatics, computer vision, machine learning, mathematics, computer science, or related fields. Essential skills include experience with computer vision and AI in medical imaging, programming (preferably Python), and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams. Desirable skills include knowledge in immuno-informatics, computational biology, cheminformatics, or computational chemistry. The position offers opportunities for high-impact research, publication, and collaboration in a leading pharmaceutical environment.

The application deadline is July 1, 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the provided links.
