About this position
The Sustainable Multifunctional Materials & Additive Manufacturing (SM²AM) Laboratory at the University of Glasgow, led by Professor S. Kumar, is offering a postdoctoral research associate position in the field of autonomous sensing architected metamaterials. This Henry Royce Institute–funded project aims to develop 3D-printed, self-sensing lightweight composites capable of real-time structural health monitoring without external sensors. The research integrates additive manufacturing, nano- and micro-engineered composites, experimental evaluation, and multiscale, multiphysics, and data-driven modelling.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team and collaborate closely with industry partner Hexcel and the University of Cambridge. Essential expertise includes multiscale or multiphysics modelling or data-driven modelling of composites, while desirable skills are additive manufacturing and experimental mechanics. The position is based at the University of Glasgow, with a preference for candidates already in the UK. The initial contract is for approximately 5 months, with the possibility of extension depending on funding and performance.
This opportunity is ideal for researchers interested in advanced materials science, mechanical engineering, and the development of innovative sensing technologies for structural health monitoring. The SM²AM Laboratory is at the forefront of research in multifunctional materials and additive manufacturing, providing a stimulating environment for postdoctoral researchers to advance their careers.
