Postdoctoral Research Position in Access to Nature for Children and Young People at University of Sheffield School of Architecture and Landscape University of Sheffield in United Kingdom

The University of Sheffield School of Architecture and Landscape is offering a short-term postdoctoral research position focused on access to nature for children and young people. The project centers on conducting an academic, practice, and policy literature review and contributing writing for a Natural England publication. The research will address barriers and enablers for children and young people accessing and engaging in nature and green spaces, with a UK focus.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team led by Professor Clare Rishbeth, working alongside Sarah Neal and Bridget Snaith. The position is fully remote but requires the researcher to be UK-based. Flexible working hours are offered, averaging 30 hours per week, from 5th January to 27th February 2026. The role is paid at £23.81 per hour (Grade 7.3) and includes co-authorship on the evidence briefing publication.

The project is supported by Natural England and government departments such as Defra, DCMS, and DfE. The research aims to create an evidence briefing that addresses barriers, enablers, and interventions to engagement in nature for children and young people, with attention to intersectionality and innovative case studies.
