About this position
The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral position (Adjunct/Post-doc) in the Department of Cosmic Ray Research and Neutrino Studies (NZ15), within the Division of Particle and Astroparticle Physics. This full-time research position is offered for up to 33 months and focuses on the analysis of data from the Pierre Auger Observatory, particularly the AugerPrime detector, using advanced machine learning techniques.
The successful candidate will engage in the reconstruction and analysis of cosmic ray data, study hadronic interactions in extensive air showers, and participate in data-taking shifts at the Pierre Auger Observatory in Malargüe, Argentina. The position offers access to state-of-the-art research facilities, including computer farms, cloud computing infrastructure, and collaboration with world-class experts. There are no teaching obligations, allowing the researcher to focus exclusively on scientific work.
Applicants must have a PhD in physical sciences obtained within the last 10 years, a strong publication record in international journals, and experience in experimental data analysis with programming skills in Python, C, C++, or the ROOT environment. Teamwork, excellent English proficiency, and analytical thinking are essential. Familiarity with astrophysics, particle physics, or cosmic ray research is advantageous. Candidates are required to contact Prof. Dariusz Góra, head of the NZ15 Department, early in the process and may be asked to deliver a seminar prior to application submission.
The position provides a competitive monthly gross salary of PLN 7,250 (for PhD holders) or PLN 8,050 (for those with habilitation), with additional benefits such as long-service awards, annual bonuses, and support from the Company Social Benefits Fund. The application deadline is May 4th, 2026. Applications, including all required documents, should be sent by email to [email protected], with referees sending recommendations directly to the same address. Interviews will be held between June 9th and June 11th, 2026, and the competition will conclude by June 22nd, 2026.
For further details, consult the official terms and conditions at the IFJ PAN website and contact Prof. Dariusz Góra for guidance. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in cosmic ray and neutrino physics within a vibrant international environment.
