Postdoctoral Researcher in Gravitational Wave Astrophysics (Einstein Telescope Project) Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences in Poland

The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Adjunct) position in the Department of Cosmic Ray Research and Neutrino Studies (NZ15), Division of Particle and Astroparticle Physics. This full-time, fixed-term position (up to 33 months) focuses on gravitational wave astrophysics, with a particular emphasis on experimental instrumentation and data analysis as part of the Einstein Telescope project.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment, contributing to cutting-edge projects in gravitational wave detection and analysis. Responsibilities include conducting research on gravitational waves, disseminating results through publications in leading scientific journals and presentations at international conferences, and applying for external research funding. The position offers access to state-of-the-art research facilities, including computer farms, cloud computing infrastructure, and opportunities for collaboration with world-class experts and other research institutes.

Applicants must hold a PhD in astronomy, physical sciences, or a related discipline, with a strong publication record in prestigious international journals. Essential qualifications include expertise in gravitational wave research (especially in connection with elementary particle physics, astrophysics, and astronomy), hands-on experience in observational gravitational-wave astrophysics (instrumentation and data analysis), proficiency in modern programming languages (Python, C++, or Fortran), and excellent English communication skills. Experience with LIGO or VIRGO experiments and participation in large international collaborations are highly valued.

The position is research-only, with no teaching obligations, and offers an annual leave of 36 days. The monthly gross salary is PLN 7,250 for PhD holders and PLN 8,050 for those with a postdoctoral degree (habilitation), with possible additional benefits such as long-service awards, annual bonuses, and social benefits.
