About this position

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering is recruiting postdoctoral scholars for the 2025-2026 academic year. These positions are open to candidates with a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field, and require subject-matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: advanced and additive manufacturing, advanced materials characterization, biomaterials, bioinspired and self-assembled materials, energy materials and sustainability, materials for structural applications and extreme environments, modeling, theory and computational approaches to materials science and engineering, and nanoscale and functional materials. The department anticipates multiple openings at postdoctoral scholar levels 0-IV, with initial appointments for two years and the possibility of renewal based on job performance and funding availability. The total duration of postdoctoral service, including at other institutions, may not exceed five years.

The salary range for these positions is $66,737-$80,034 per year, determined by rank and step at appointment, and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Funding for these positions is dependent on extramural sources. Applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter expressing their area(s) of interest, and the names and contact information for at least three references. Optional documents include a statement of research and a teaching statement.

Applications should be submitted through UCI's online RECRUIT system. The application window opens July 7, 2025, with a priority review date of August 6, 2025. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2026, but those received after the review date will only be considered if the position remains unfilled. UCI is an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or other protected categories.

As a condition of employment, finalists must disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions related to misconduct within the last seven years. The position is based in Irvine, California, offering access to a vibrant research community and state-of-the-art facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to advance their expertise in materials science and engineering at a leading research university.
