About this position

The Department of Mathematics at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel is inviting applications for a research assistant (PhD position) in the field of functional analysis, starting October 1, 2026. This position is initially limited to three years and offers a part-time contract (75% of full-time, currently 29.025 hours per week) with a salary based on pay group 13 TV-L, provided tariff requirements are met. The role includes a regular teaching load of 3 hours per week and participation in the supervision of student theses, as well as involvement in administrative and organizational duties within the institute.

The successful candidate will conduct research in functional analysis, with opportunities to engage in projects related to operator algebras, analytic group theory, and noncommutative harmonic analysis. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Mathematics and demonstrate excellent knowledge of functional analysis. A strong interest in the specified research areas is essential. Additionally, successful applicants are expected to acquire sufficient knowledge of German within one year to actively participate in teaching activities.
