About this position

The Plasticity in Neurodevelopment (PINE) Lab at Northeastern University is seeking a full-time Software Engineer / Postdoctoral Fellow in EEG Methods Development. This is a single position that may be appointed either as a postdoctoral fellow or as a software engineer, depending on the candidate’s background, training, and career goals.

The role centers on EEG methods development, including creating and optimizing HAPPE software for analyzing EEG data from different systems, developing new preprocessing and analysis methods, contributing to scientific papers, and supporting research assistants and students with tutorials and documentation. The work sits within the Plasticity in Neurodevelopment (PINE) Lab, led by Laurel Gabard-Durnam, and is embedded in international collaborative projects on neurodevelopment, cognition, language, stress and adversity, early nutrition, and public health interventions.

Projects include cohort studies and randomized controlled trials across multiple international sites in Sub-Saharan Africa, in collaboration with Huru Ltd, Dr. Santiago Morales at USC, and other partners. The goal is to make EEG more accessible and scalable for global health research.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, computer science, signal processing, biomedical engineering, or a related field; experience with EEG acquisition and analysis in humans; fluency in MATLAB and Python; strong experimental and statistical skills; and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Preferred experience includes R, EEGLAB or MNE-Python, and software development tools such as version control, documentation, and Git/GitHub.

Funding and duration: The position is open immediately for up to three years, with the possibility of extension depending on grant funding.

How to apply: Email a cover letter, CV, and three references with contact information to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
