Description

Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, in collaboration with the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), is seeking two Technical Assistants to join Prof. Ludovic Vallier’s lab. The positions support a cell-based therapy program focused on developing GMP-grade human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived hepatocytes for treating acute liver disease using genome editing and bioprinting technologies. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms of human liver development and applies this knowledge to generate clinically relevant liver cells for disease modeling and therapeutic applications. The successful candidates will contribute to the ARPA-H LIVE project, which aims to bioprint an entire human liver for transplantation. Responsibilities include identifying and characterizing hiPSC lines, producing and quality-controlling liver cells, developing differentiation methods using bioreactors, and collaborating with an international research network. Additional duties involve cell culture, analytical procedures, equipment maintenance, and general lab organization. Applicants must hold a Bachelor or equivalent in cell biology, bioengineering, or regenerative medicine, with hands-on experience in tissue culture (especially hiPSCs), flow cytometry, QPCR, and confocal imaging. Strong self-motivation, organizational and project management skills, scientific curiosity, and fluency in English are essential. The position offers a full-time contract (38.5h/week) until September 2028, with salary according to E9b TVöD VKA-K and public sector benefits, including flexible hours, 30 vacation days, and support for work-life balance. Applications from diverse backgrounds are encouraged, and proof of measles immunity/vaccination is required for those born after 1970. Foreign degree holders must provide recognition documentation for Germany. To apply, submit your application via the Charité online portal with a motivation letter, CV (without photo, age, or marital status), and relevant certificates. For technical questions, contact Prof. L. Vallier at [email protected]. More information can be found on the Charité career website and the Vallier group page.

Funding

The position is full-time (38.5 hours/week) and classified under pay group E9b TVöD VKA-K. The annual gross salary is based on qualifications and experience. Additional public sector benefits include annual special payment, company pension scheme (VBL), capital-forming benefits, flexible working hours, 30 vacation days per year, and various support offers for work-life balance. No relocation or travel costs are covered.

Foreign degree holders must provide proof of recognition in Germany. For technical questions, contact Prof. L. Vallier at [email protected].

Requirements

Applicants must have a Bachelor or equivalent degree in cell biology, bioengineering, or regenerative medicine. Experience in tissue culture, especially with human pluripotent stem cells, is required. Basic experience in flow cytometry, QPCR, and confocal imaging is expected. Candidates should be able to work independently and as part of a team, possess strong self-motivation, organizational skills, and the ability to lead and develop scientific projects. Fluency in English is required. Proof of measles immunity/vaccination is necessary for those born after 1970. If holding a foreign degree, proof of recognition in Germany is required.
